Prayers

Digital Prayer Wall

For my school I have developed a digital prayer wall on Padlet called 'PLC Prays'. This prayer space has posted on it prayers I have written for the daily notices of our Middle and Senior Colleges. These prayers are used daily and based on the fortnightly threads we use in worship, the themes of PERMA and character strengths from the Positive Schools movement and particular events, activities and camps that are happening in the life of our school. Occasionally, when the opportunity arises, staff or students also post prayers here for our community.

Prayer Spaces in Schools

How well do you think Lutheran schools create a culture of prayer amongst children, teenagers and staff? Prayer Spaces in schools is a movement that started in Britain to allow students and staff the chance to explore Christian prayer in a safe and creative way.  These interactive prayer spaces engage the senses and inspire the heart and mind in a non-threathening way. In 2017, Phil Togwell from Prayer Spaces England toured Australia as this praying initiative to children and young people keeps growing.

The Prayer Spaces website says this about their model of praying in schools we; enable children and young people, of all faiths and none, to explore  life questions, spirituality and faith in a safe, creative and interactive way. Taking a broadly Christian perspective as a starting point, prayer spaces give children and young people an opportunity to develop skills of personal reflection and to explore prayer in an open, inclusive and safe environment. The approach does not proselytise and purposely allows pupils to make their own meaning and to draw their own conclusions. A prayer space is usually a classroom sized area that has been transformed for a few days or a week with a range of creative activities that encourage personal reflection on issues such as forgiveness, injustice, thankfulness, big questions, identity and stillness. In some schools, teachers bring their students for a subject-lesson in the prayer space. In other schools, students are invited to visit the prayer space voluntarily, during their breaks and lunchtimes and maybe after the school day has finished. www.prayerspacesinschools.com/
